Annette and Steve invite you to join them on an evening walk at Les Landes de Locarn to view a solar eclipse. It is a rare event which has the moon passing in front of the sun and causing a near total eclipse of 95% It will start to happen just a few hours before sunset and take place when the sun is just 12 degrees above the horizon. So it is best viewed from somewhere high up. The moors at Landes de Locarn have a great aspect and weather permitting, we should get a clear view. It is a fairly long eclipse of almost 2 hours duration with a maximum about 20:12 hrs.

We propose combining it with a walk down to the Gorges du Corong across the giant boulders and then back up onto the moors just as the eclipse begins. The walk by itself is superb and last completed by AIKB a pied in Oct 2025.

It is easy walking with just a few short hills and a good path.Total walk will be about 2 hours and then add on however long we wish to view the eclipse for. It will get almost fully dark however I am assured daylight will return briefly before sunset at 21:30 hrs enough to see us back to the car park! I suggest bringing a torch, jacket, a mat to sit on and even a small picnic. It should be a most unusual evening.

Please be aware of the need to use eye protection specifically designed to view a solar eclipse. This is available at little cost online or l suspect from local retailers nearer the time once the eclipse becomes more widely known.

As usual please bring 3 euros, wear suitable walking boots and of course dogs with well behaved owners are welcome! Depart at 1800hrs from the car park at Les Landes de Locarn on D20 just 2.5km west of St Nicodeme or 4.8km east of Locarn. https://maps.goo.gl/qvbq22538nYha9Lk8
