This weekend's art workshop was about teaching the traditional art of canal boat roses and castle painting.

This art was created by the old bargees who lived and worked on the industrial canals of UK. In the often dirty dusty smelly working environments , moving all sorts of commerce, they wanted to brighten their own living conditions. Particularly those with families on board .

It’s a naive form of art which was used not only on the boats themselves but also on all sorts of items from everyday use. Watering cans, irons, buckets and the furniture within the living space too. Styles adapted to the skills of the people doing the decorations but basically it is designed to brighten up and enhance the living space.

Our workshop items will all depict mostly imaginary castles, which fits in with our annual expo theme for the month of July in Gouarec and will be for display and sale.
