20 YEARS IN THE MAKING...
TIME TO CELEBRATE!!
The AIKB's
20th anniversary meal held on Sunday 5th November was a huge success!
A big THANK
YOU goes out to all the members who participated, to all the volunteers
who have done a wonderful job preparing and organising the event, and to
Marilyn who created AIKB in the first place!
Maggie was
presented with a beautiful glass bowl as her retirement present, and Marilyn
was presented with a gorgeous bouquet of flowers...
A TALK BY WENDY MEWES
It is with
great pleasure that AIKB welcomed on Thursday 5th October the author, historian
and speaker Wendy MEWES who gave a talk about the Tro Breiz, a catholic
pilgrimage which links the towns of the Seven Saints who founded Brittany.
We look forward to inviting Wendy again soon to learn further about the
Breton history, myths and legends.

AIKB WALKING GROUP
25 SEPTEMBER
ETANG DU CORONG, GLOMEL
This first
walk was a great success. 'A perfect afternoon' seemed to be the unanimous
feedback! It is great that all participants enjoyed our first outing so
well.
The next walk
is planned for Tuesday October 24th, full details to follow nearer the
date; let's hope the weather is equally kind to us!
The central
theme of our group is intended to be 'variety' i.e something for everyone;
so walks may be long or short, easy strolls or more for exercise, in the
countryside or around towns, on different days of the week - and perhaps
including some 'social time' at a local hostelry afterwards, before or
even during the walk? Together we can explore new locations – and with
different leaders...
Everyone has
a favourite walk so please enjoy sharing it with us! Please email to me
with your ideas, suggestions and feedback – all will be welcome – you'll
find me at tony.pendleton@gmail.com
Right now suggestions
for walks in the coming 'cooler' months will be especially welcome, especially
if they offer that option to include a bit of 'social time' somewhere warm
and welcoming!
PONT AVEN 15 SEPTEMBER
After a delightful
picnic by the river, we visited the Musée de Pont-Aven to view the
permanent exhibition of the Gauguin group of artists plus the interesting
expo "Artistes Voyageuses", the exceptional lady artists of the late 1880's.
The exhibition,
a mixture of paintings and photography, will be in situ until November
5th and is well worth a visit!

their top three. The feedback from visitors was very positive with many
saying that it was an extremely difficult decision this year due to the
quality of the entries.
The exhibition continues
until Friday 1st September 2023 at the AIKB offices in Gouarec

Visit to the spinning mill
"La Petite Filature Bretonne"
near Plouguernével
We were 35-strong and had a fascinating
guided tour of the mill. We were shown the various processes that the wool
has to go through in order to produce threads and felt. They use fibres
from sheep, alpacas, goats and angora rabbits to spin a wide variety of
wool.
